is like, america e+ dying ?
every time i see less clans on america, or that amount of people that used to play, i see people from america trying to join europe clans now, from what i've seen, so there is no more american ranking as it used to be? or at least what they tried to do with that. anyway. is sad to see this mod dying in a way in america. i hope more people would play on public servers in america, the only server we need is nuclear fusion, there is nothing else, there are lot of servers but all empty so i suggest if u have a server, instead of spending for nothing, better pay that money to do some marketing, print flyers and put it on high schools, about excessive plus Winking hahaha i'll do that if i was in school or do something like that to get more people to install this shit, well that's just a suggestion, some guy in public server told me that he was like going to seed or something like that the q3 with the e+ mod to see if more people will come play here, anyway send ur suggestions on how we can grow as a community, in europe i see a lot of movement, but unfortunally in america is like kinda ghost town >.<

the problem is rather the less amount of new players in us or Europe due to the fact the biggest nub catcher server is hosted by someone never online/cheat aka faceofdeath.

I think the repetition found on public servers is part of what makes people grow bored with this mod. You can easily predict now what any game will be like as soon as you join a public server.

If it's FFA, there will be a fraglimit of 50 and the maps you play will be dm6, dm7, dm8, dm11, dm12, dm13, dm14, dm17, cpm9

If it's TDM, there will be a fraglimit of 200 and the maps you play will be dm6, dm7, dm8, dm11, dm14, dm17

If it's 1v1, there will be a fraglimit of 12 or 15 and the maps you play will be dm1, dm2, dm3, dm5, dm6, dm17. Unless it's a Euro server - then there will be a timelimit of 5 or 6 minutes.

If it's Clan Arena...

wait, THERE'S ONLY ONE CA SERVER AND NO ONE IS EVER ON IT! Why is that? Oh. Fraglimit 15 and the maps are dm6, dm7, dm8, dm11, dm14, ospra3map1, overkill and cpm9. And it's a US server. For a clan which no longer exists (?) to my knowledge [Dvinsk].

I'm not going to knock the stock maps. They're some of the best maps we have to choose from other than the CPMA maps (and there are some great cpma maps for duel and clan arena). But running the exact same game settings on the exact same maps, with little variance over YEARS, gets quite boring.

The other night I was on Nuclear Fuzion (which is a mixed gametype server, for those of you who never play U.S. servers - even though you say ping doesn't matter and ask me to play on Euro all the time Winking). There were some 12-14 people there. Only three of us were playing. I got bored and went to spec after a while too. So bored, in fact, that I decided to change the maps, gametypes, fraglimit and timelimit for a change.

PEOPLE ACTUALLY STARTED PLAYING AGAIN. We had some epic games that no one knew how they would end! One dm6 match started off slow for one team, and when the other team hit 15, guess what? There were still 4 minutes left in the game. Complete turnaround, slow-start team ended up winning by 5 points.

How's that for a shocker?

I'm just saying that we should try something different in how public games are set up, first of all. This will keep those of us still here from getting insane batshit bored, I think, although there are some other things that bug the shit out of me and probably me alone when it comes to this mod.

I suggest a very customized rotation.txt for popular servers. Try the if/then/else structure in your rotation schedule to make it so if this many people are present, the map will be this and the timelimit will be that, but if there are less than this many, it will be that map with the other timelimit, etc. Varying time limits, fraglimits, maps, etc. by how many players are on the server is not just possible, it's logical.

As for how to get more people to play this mod, try making it so the only weapon that can kill you with one shot is the railgun. I wonder how many people who play baseq3, CPMA, NoGhost, RA3, etc. connect to an E+ server and die by BFG 20 times within the first minute and actually STAY in the mod long enough to post on the forums about how stupid that is.

I've seen posts saying "Why don't the pros play this mod?" since day one (2005 for me). And they existed before that too. You want the answer? It's because of that. You know how many guys like Vo0, czm, LeXer, Cooller, toxic, mew, rat, vamp1re, etc. actually respond with "lol" when you ask them what they think of the E+ mod?

Nearly all of them.

And believe me, I've talked to many of them on IRC and IM only to find that they won't try this mod more than once. You hear rumors that someone played against Fatal1ty once. Once. Or that Phuck3r plays E+ under a fakenick because he loves the crazy movement style (change your mind about that dm17 rematch, dude? Tongue) And that Cooller came on 2!S TDM one day back in '07 and watched a heated match between some fine American players and some finer European players.

But these things have only happened a handful of times, and the pros never stick around because in this mod, where one shot = one kill, the pro has little advantage over the 12 year old geek who just mashes his keyboard and mouse buttons faster. Notice I said "little advantage", not "no advantage" - skill is an advantage.

But in E+ aim is not so much a requirement as a back-burner project for most players. Most players put a higher priority on flicking grenades at the wall and moving through the map @ omgfast speed than actually learning moving, jumping, turning (tactics) or learning a map, environment, item/powerup placement (strategy).

This is a very long post, and I'm sure most of you won't read it. But for those who do there is a reward:

To be honest, as far as CA on E+ goes, it's pretty much pointless. It's Ftag with no way to get back into the round. I'm not surprised at all it failed to set foot on this mod, i mean, you have to wait through the whole round if you, for example, die from a random spam projectile shot an hour ago, and it doesn't really mix well with the 'the more i camp, the better' mentality of E+'s plus side, since CA would actually promote camping even more. No one wants to die, but dying and waiting fuck knows how long till you can get back in on the action? Nah.

Pretty much agree with your conclusions, though, especially about why E+ stays niche and ignored by the big boys of the Quake scene.

I'd imagine some extremely aim intensive players would find their moments of joy just flicking a few rails on a pub now and again, but most would just get trolled by how E+ completely disregards and pisses all over the peripheral skills such as map control, item timing, ground movement and prediction, thus ignoring all the years they played the game the 'normal' way, additionally getting frustrated by dying from random spam and to sneaky poles backstabbing them AND being called a 'noob' when actually killing someone.

As to why US scene is withering away, well, disinterest is the name of the game. No new blood + the oldies prefer socializing on spec than playing.

I thought of this also, and thought the best way to make Clan Arena popular would be to implement strict powerups like everyone's complaining about in PlusN.cfg (megahealth, armor and battle suit protect you from rail - be nice to see them work against all weapons+splash damage), quad damage minimal boost since most weapons kill easily anyway :roll: or make Clan Arena weapons do much less damage + keep armor and powerups to make it even harder to get a kill, but keep Excessive weapon switching and movement.

It'd be nice to see it happen. I'd love it. Playing Clan Arena on CPMA, QL or anywhere else you see as much camping as a normal ranked game of freeze in E+

I know Z4muz enjoyed E+ for a time, and occasionally Mew... or was it czm? Can't remember. One of those omg insane railers with low sens was the regular lurker under fakenick on Euro servers and stopped by God's Frag Farm once waaaaaaay back when I first got /rcon and used to whois everyone Laughing I kept the secret. Barely.

I think it really would improve this mod's community and fanbase to have things more competitive though. Sadly I might be a minority. I got quite a few "lol"s the other night on public when I said I want to get an E+ server just for baseq3.cfg Chatterbox
