Need some help with hardware
if u upgraded from win 2000 then it copyies the settings over to xp, you need to install a fresh copy of xp w/o upgrading
I don't believe anyone hasn't written this yet... but here goes :
Firstly, If the green light flashes, it means there is some form of communication against the peripheral (DVD Drive) and the Computer.
So, this leaves us with two possible solutions.
1) Check the cables are connected CORRECTLY, and pushed in all the way.
2) In order for the DVD drive to function, the computer needs drivers. (These allow the computer to communicate with the DVD Drive).
so, find out your manufacturer and model number, and search for the drivers, or alternatively, list the manufacturer and model number here, and I'll give you a direct link to the download.
... I'll wait now ...
well xp auto insatll my dvd for me:P but hell mine works
well xp auto insatll my dvd for me:P but hell mine works
im trying to help lee and anyone with problems .
im glad yours works already
lol cuz im good:P
Imo try to make a copy of the cd from @ a friend, but this time you use another type of dvd.. like verbatim or sony.. might solve the case. cause some players have piracy protections with some type of cd's.
Also u cant watch a dvd movie with Divx player, get one of these: PowerDVD, Windvd, Inter Actual Player.
get this http://www.videolan.org/vlc/, and delete ALL players that u use cause this one takes all kind of shit and i mean ALL!!. Well, except RM files.
Its easy made, and u can add .srt files for undertexting on div.x movies.
That would be a microsoft 1st you really need to make a screeshot of that "worked fully without installing drivers dvd rom" and mail it to Bill. As for the rest of us 1st recommendation check the bios settings I doubt this is it seeing that it recognized a regular cd rom, but never hurts to look either just have the bios auto detect drives as that may show any mas, sla, issue's you may have with the drives. check to see if DMA is enabled also while your there.
2nd check for drivers and firmware updates for you rom drive from the makers website. As believe it or not xp does sometimes require the hardware manufacturers drivers and most of them are being nice enough now to remove that region code mess with either a rom bios or firmware update . Note: follow the instructions exactly while updating any bios and make sure its made for your drive model specifically " been there done that not pretty ".
3rd If all other suggestions and roads lead nowhere try using Daemon tools like Alchohol 120% or any prog of that nature, have your friend make an Iso convert it to split file zip or rar files, burn it to standard cd's as your drive has issues with dvd roms, copy to the hd, unzip or rar, delete the rar or zip files after you get the iso from them . mount the iso and see if that works for you. This wont solve the movie viewing issues but should help with the getting the data from the DVD rom one .
Oh yeah and Dont forget to thank your friend " youll owe him BIG" . Because making a split rar or zip out of a 4 gig file @ highest compression is the truest measure of friendship.
huhu 1st of all thx for the help.
second im not at home now so i can't read the number and stuff, but also a clean install might work.
I know it's a mercury 16x dvd rom but cant tell the modelnumber.
I'll get home tomorrow night and I'll post it right here, and if the driver does'nt work (i'm not sure ive got a driver for my dvd player ) i'll try a reinstall.
Thanks,
-Lee.
