[POLL] Gaming monitor 4K or 144Hz?
No problems with playing on a Samsung SyncMaster 24" 60Hz
I think that you would waste your money on such monitors really, are you ever gonna play on tournaments and win back that money? Are you going to stream on them and get money back thru Twitch subs / donations from viewers or something?
You should add 3rd option: "Dont waste money"
In fact I already have a 24" LG W2363D 120Hz monitor, but I'm planning to buy a new full cfg so buying a new monitor as well.
I've found a LG 40" 4K TV which is 3840 width resolution for only 500€. And 900 Hz display refresh rate. But how can it be 900 Hz rate whereas PC monitors tryhard to reach 144 Hz and cannot go above 1920 for this display refresh rate? Would this be nice to be plugged for a computer use?
HZ on a TFT/LCD is as important as grey to grey and r2g2b.
About TV HZ - its mostly marketing, I forgott the real explaination due to not owning or using a tv, but this is as close as it gets:
"In other words, let's say a TV has a 120Hz screen refresh rate. It is possible that it may also incorporate a backlight that flashes on and off rapidly at an additional 120Hz every second (in between the screen refresh rate repeated frames). This technique delivers the effect of having a 240Hz screen refresh rate by effectively cheating the system."
Didnt invest more then 2 mins on that.
EDIT: Somehow it ate the rest of my post
Asus vg248qe - runs nearly as smooth, if u play grey to grey its rly nice.
@jeff: maybe its just about being limitless.
900Hz? marketing beat physix again

I found 4K interesting as you could have 3 windows opened on the same screen and also benefit for the high resolution for gaming and other multimedia applications, but 60 Hz is like neon lights and a real pain for eyes.
Sadly there is no 4K plus with at least 120 Hz monitors.

i actually own that TV (i think: 40ub800v) but i bought it reduced for 400€ around after christmas. from my experience 4k is just a nice little gimmick that you really don't need at the moment. also 4k means higher input lag (around 90ms), at least on that tv. not really for playing multiplayer games, but ok for single player and ofc ok for movies. 900hz is sth like a 100 or mb even 200hz panel plus some software/marketing like skull said. if you buy a tv just check that it doesnt use a 50hz panel. everything above is good imo.
can recommend that tv anyways cuz at the time i bought it it had by far the best specs in that price range and it even has quite a good design
main reason why tv's generally can reach higher hz more easily imo is input lag and the connection itself (140hz needs dvi instead of hdmi)
sorry for off-topic guys but last words of rix reminded me of some question i had in my had already long time ago....about dvi-hdmi : what are the differences? is hdmi needed? i use dvi on 24" lcd tv-monitor at 1920x1080 60hz, i tried hdmi some time ago but it's a pain in the ass for regulate all the settings in the menu, seems it ain't automatic as dvi...if i use hdmi will i get something more in hz? quality? or whatever? as i know the hdmi is just good coz sends also audio signal over that cable, so is good for consoles attached to the tv or from a laptop etc, but for pc, i dunno much...
about dvi-hdmi : what are the differences?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Compatibility_with_DVI
Basic for gamers: HDMI supports 144hz just under very special circumstances. Even if all of ur devices are HDMI, when one is only HDMI1.3 or older u cant run 144hz.
DVI-DL is the choice eventhough its basically the same signal transfered.
hm so for 144 hz (120 as i see can be on dvi) i need to use hdmi? what u mean for DUAL dvi? what is this dual link n single link for dvi? and i still don't get if there are differences of graphic detail between dvi and hdmi..
