Hello, it's your resident reporter from "other places", and would like to comment on the upcoming quake tourneys in the summer, for the purposes of including a spectatorbase))) (considering at the moment there is only one active tournament, and even that only has 8 clans, figured people might be interested to see something that's more proactive). Anyways, to avoid upsetting people by comparing other mods to excessive, I will omit any freezetag or instagib events (well, there are none atm LOL)

First, let's cover the big one, DREAMHACK SUMMER 2012.
15th June - 19th June

Cited by many as one of the last QuakeLive LANs before it dies, 32 duellers will battle it out for a prize purse of 70000 Swedish Krona, or about 8000 euros (CPL where art thou? )

Of the 32 people competing, some might recognize ani, captain of of the Swedish National CTF and iCTF teams, Neutralizers and Bananaklan fame, as well as 31 other duellers.

Notable absentees are strenx and stermy, both instead attending the first compeitive Shootmania FPS lan (more on that below), Cooller ( he seems to be done with Quake ) and tox (ditto).

Nonetheless, should be an exciting tournament and the amount of spectators should silence the "Quake is dead" doubters.

On-site coverage will be done by brofessional shoutcaster of level up tv, zoot, including the grand final on the big arena (last tournament, a hockey rink was changed to incoporate both the stage and the spectators).

At the same time, in Paris, the unfortunately named
SOPA LAN
16th-17th June

will try to showcase the new "Esport worthy" (please note the airquotes) where some known FPSers (some of who are quakers) will play a 3v3 event as a first massive non-E3 glance at the game (it's currently in the Alpha stage with all alpha testers under a non-disclosure agreement so this will be the big one, and unlike the E3 showmatches, the competitors are rumoured to be given chairs

Will this be the game to save deathmatch gaming from its constant decline? Time will tell, but the consensus from the gamers is that it's a casual game, and more likely to be something along the lines of Angry Birds or what Trackmania did for professional racing games, i.e. not an esport per se, but good luck to all the quakers which have been bought (including the brand new Milennium Gaming which announced a lineup of Strenx, Cypher and av3k among their new signings. Cypher and av3k are no longer with Serious Gaming.

Now is the time to announce something which will hit home among the Quake3'ers among us.
Last time I announced a CPM event here, 2 people signed up and won 2 games each before being eliminated in LB round 3, SP/SPraw and Kassary/Toxic/TehTox, who did quite well before SP had to leave due to his opponent's warping making him impossible to hit, and Toxic being knocked out by the eventual winner NobodyCares

CPMA 4v4 TDM SUMMER DRAFT CUP

sorry for the banner being too big, but I gave up on the promotional pic cos it looked crap, and never bothered making a banner at all

This will be a draft cap where 8 captains will pick players in order, until all players are taken. This will be done tomorrow (10th June) on IRC on channel #cpmtdmdraft, with all the games scheduled to take place on Sunday 17th June. Please note that this cup has no skill gap and players are encouraged to join and participate to learn the ropes and make new friends.
