Vista and the shoutbox
Consider Opera also. Firefox got the early hype as the "alternative" to IE7 but Opera has vastly improved since. Imo, it has a cleaner interface and despite what you think of stats, its been proven thats its faster than Firefox.
Firefox + Ubuntu = Yes.
Good luck foxy
Opera has problems with some web apps (bad javascript compatibility). But i agree opera is very good brower. BTW iam visiting e+ website always via Opera. I have installed both browsers.

Yeh, agreed.
And foxy, even if you do get the shoutbox working in IE, I, or most probably all of us , would still recommend installing another browser.
Mow, Vista is just a transition OS. Windows 7 is the future, even in alpha status... and when its final, everyone will probably forget Vista ever existed.

The same i thought about win XP before years and years. After almost 2 years of waiting for longhorn i installed that xp shit. Vista was bad when was released but now, when its more supported and including SP1 its better OS than Win XP. It starts faster than XP, working better with RAM, is more stable (nothing changed when i replaced mobo from P5L 1394 to P5K/EPU). But I had problems with making XP running without reinstallation. Vista looks better (XP look is very outdated).
Long time i had the same opinion like you. But after some time i tried to install vista black edition 2009 (cracked and improved ultimate version) and after that i discovered that many my arguments are bullshit and vista is really better than xp users think.
Vista looks better (XP look is very outdated).
gosh, i run xp on classic design.
and tbh, u can modify that a lot!
yeah im running xp,
but i have used that h4x thing and i have a nice little skin for it, a mouse pointer, font, and some program skins to go along with it
(they are all black, as this saves energy[not that i care lol])
Windows 7 will probably be released sooner than later. MS are obviously annoyed that still people insist on sticking with XP since Vista's early history haunts them. Its all gonna end when MS end support for XP, almost forcing users to change OS.
Oh and btw foxy, I remember you said that you were not going to downgrade to XP since it voids the warranty? Well, yes it may void the software warranty (i.e. windows) but will NOT void the hardware warranty. So if anything physically goes wrong with your computer, you can still get it repaired free of charge relying you're still in the warranty time frame.
If you like Vista, get an additional 1GB Ram stick on top of your existing 1GB. If you dislike Vista and therefore want to install XP, then 1GB Ram should be just fine.

Yes, you can modify it much but still cant be result better than vista aero or compiz BTW when you use truetransparency or windowsFX programs, you can have problems with compatibility (for example with photoshop). You cant work with windows in photoshop.
Ratz, I was 1 of the few who never shared this anti-vista agitation. The "most" who grumbled on vista had obsolete hardware, so they had a lot of compatibilty problems. I not. My biggest problem was, i had to plug out my cardreader to play q3 on a pb-server... (no shit).
I bought Vista arround 2 weeks after release date, and i had "almost" never problems. The problems i had, i could trick or even solve. Meanwhile Vista is so much patched, that i have not any problems anymore. I can claim without becoming red, Vista is faster and more stable than XP.
I do not know whether you can remember, Ratz, however when XP was released, everyone grumbled about XP and everyone said it will be only lock-up, before Longhorn (Vista). It was even worse then with Vista.
And i am pretty sure, Windows 7 will not be released before 2011 or even 2012. (Look back what MS claimed about the first release Date of Longhorn.
(@ the linux fanatics, NO I WONT INSTALL LINUX ONCE AGAIN, IT WORKS TOTALLY DIFFERENT THEN WINDOWS, I PREFERE TO STAY A SHEEP INSTEAD OF FEELING THE TOTAL FREEDOM)
@ beazt: I made my xp look totally like vista, it is possible to change every aspect of your theme...even the vista drive status and the shutdown buttons.
Concerning speed, by using nlite on XP SP3 and removing some unnecessary crap i guarantee u that u cannot start your vista faster then my optimized sp3. It boots literally in 5 seconds after the xp logo, or less. Concerning memory usage it is a myth, there are no games yet which can use properly 4 gb of ram, trust me, ur gain IN GAMES with a 64bit OS will be equivalent to - nothing. Check out the benchmarks which prove that best performance is obtained on xp sp3. Im not talking about photoshop and video editing programs.
Longhorn and Vista are not the same thing. If u saw videos about longhorn presentation that was something completely different than what vista is now. Vista is a crippled version of what longhorn should have been, but their attempt to run a macintoshe'd OS on todays PC hardware which is very different and versatile was just an epic FAIL. Hence vista was created.
@mow: windows 7 might be here sooner than u think...
