Custom resolution causing lagg?
Hey.
Today I've spotted one thing. I have this notebook since year and the game on it was a bit laggy.
My graphic settings are custom because it's 1366x768, 15,6".
I am using those screen settings to play:
r_mode -1
r_customwidth 1366
r_customheight 768
On this setting in the most of the public servers I've couldn't hit a single shot directly to a body, I had to aim to the place where enemy was about 0,2-0,5 sec ago. In the private servers like asphyxland all was ok. Till the few days ago when my game became laggy in every e+ server.
Today I was experimenting with settings and I discovered that after changing mode to normal like 800x600 or 1024x768 the problem is gone, my game became stable and finally I can hit something.
Is it normal? Does custom settings like above are causing lag? Custom screen settings shouldn't be used at all? Or maybe I did something wrong? Any ideas or reflections about that?
_= edit:
One more thing, do anyone of you who is using custom graphic settings have a problems with it? Or maybe you don't have any problems at all?
Thanks for the answers!
which graphic card you have?
btw: never recognised a problem running custom resolutions ever.
Sure a higher resolution will cause a higher gpu use, like a higher fov...
edit : with my old netbook, I couldnt have more than 80fps, and that was never stable. FPS drops cause packet losses, so it can be linked. How high is your frame rate?
what settings you have for
r_swapInterval
(vsync)
r_displayrefresh
(refresh rate)
in your config when you use that custom resolution?
__________
epsislow
I have same resolution(1366x768) and I can't make normal screenshots.

lower the screensize what monitor you got ?
expirienced the same on custom resolutions, alway's when you hit on youre monitor then you didnt hit on server, but when you use a standard quake 3 resolution all is fine and hits are hits..

i use custom settings and have had no problems with lag
r_mode -1
r_customwidth 1920
r_customheight 1080
how many fps u got? do u use com_maxfps 125? i think that maybe ur graphic card goes under stress with that resolution so ur fps drops too much then u got lag, but it's strange that happened only from new year, maybe when u changed xp verision u touched something in cfg...let us know more..
i use this same settings on graphic and for me works everything clear..what card you use ?
I found solution. Only .jpeg screenshots can be made properly on high
custom resolution. .tga probably uses to much memory. Earlier, when I
had another config, game automatically made screenshot(tga) at the end of match and I noticed that it always slows down the game for ~10 seconds, sometimes game even crashes. Unfortunately, it can't be fixed because renderer is located in quake3.exe
