So, no clue if we have any tennis fans here. Djokovic is looking awful coming into it (losing Roland Garros & Wimbledon), Murray is the defending champion but the most impressive so far has been Nadal (!). Ironic since he is a clay court specialist, but his comeback and his hard-court season has been nothing short of remarkable this year. He still has to win the WTF though.

Any favourites? Any guesses as to who will win? Personally I hope Federer has a last hurrah and a run to the top, he has a good draw this year (except of Nadal in the quarters). Having a bad year, and being ranked 7 (!!!!) if the court is fast he will dispatch any opponent.

i think Nadal and if not Murray will defend his title. Or Djokovic. Hard to tell.

A good (and long) piece on Novak, listing virtually every reason I never really took to him.

Both as a Nadal's fan for long years and as an objective tennis fan, I'd say that the top favorite this year is Nadal. His complete 2013 season and gameplay are just amazing. Having won 3 hard-court Masters without losing a hard-court match put him in the pole-position. I can't see Federer winning against him in 1/4s, even though he has produced some nice gameplays during the first 3 rounds. He is too inconsistent for the past year or two. He hasn't won a tournament for more than a year. Without doubt the best player in history, might sneak a set or even two out of Rafa, but victory will take something special. We will have to wait a see on Wednesday night.

Murray? The fact is that for the past several Slams and even the Olympics, he has been on of the most consistent players, if not the most. Having won 2 Slams of the past 4, reaching final in 3rd and winning the Olympics. With the suitable level of inspiration, he might lift the trophy at the end. Speaking of Murray, Mcenroe once said - "Unless he stops listening to 50 Cent and taking his mommy at every tournament, this babyboy will never win a Slam" Big grin Eh, just John..

Djokovic. I don't like him due to his behavior at some points - swearing at the audience, high level of arrogance at moments, those often simulations of injuries for medical breaks Big grin But beyond any doubt, he is top quality and after the last match, 3rd round win 6-0 6-2 6-2, he most certainly showed that he means business in New York, and he has the power and knowledge and skill to win another 700 ATP points.

However, I hope Rafa do it. If he wins against Nole in the finals, the difference between them will be around 100 points, but Novak will remain on the 1st position.

I'm looking forward to great matches in the upcoming rounds.

p.s. I secretly favor Youzhny.. he might surprise if he doesn't kill himself before that --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi-CgSO9Evw Big grin

I'll be rooting for Federer, as always. Although seeing how he's on a collision course with Nadal in the next round, I can't realistically expect him to go through and win the whole thing. Eh. Tennis hasn't been as enjoyable for me ever since ol' Roger's decline well and truly set in. Sigh

On the other hand, regardless of whoever does end up winning, my only hope is it won't be Djokovic. Can't stand that arrogant cunt.
