or

there a lot of variants actually

out there are cases for docking hdd's with WiFi, USB 3.0 support, more options bigger price, aim rather in USB 3.0 since its faster than 2.0 thought a little more $
but firstly before buying anything make sure the hdd suffers from "bad sectors" or not, if it does then well yeah u need to buy new hdd sooner or later, usually hdd with bad sectros makes wierd sounds "breaking down disks and spinning them up again, or/together with strong head strikes
would be nice if u have possibility to test the hdd by hdtune on other pc, read the smart status of the disk and test the surface of it

Sorry! but all you said lately made me really think you just went tired of the old system and just wanted new stuff.. also for the lots of comments with the many suggestions.. not to mention how fala was repeating one of my points but with more details to read more with nothing new..
You started wrong with the HDD.. so before you proceed with anything, just try what I told you to try, in all cases better to always have an external HDD for back up and stuff like that..
Also one of the things I forgot to tell you was that you always better install a new platform instead of copying another or using imaging program for to do so.. also check, it could be one specific program you usually use that could be hurting your HDD (this is another suggestion for what could cause the issue you suffer from)
Also forgot to tell you that there are connectors which switch HDD from internal to external to be used with USB.. or like Fala said.. etc
Try what I told you first once you get a way to back up your data (you don't want to waste money payed on that 500GB for nothing) maybe I missed something (I have a bad memory, bad enough that I would forget a comment for how many there were there..) but I guess you didn't assign a partition to be active in order to be read by bios and be bootable, right? which is what makes you never able to see it at boot screen..
Sorry again, I seriously thought you stopped looking for solutions and just wanted a new system! I even had in mind to recommend some of them for you!
so it is the same I've looked, this is the simplest looking one and best what it can actually does what fala posted:
http://allegro.pl/adapter-przejsciowka-usb-do-dysku-sata-ide-pata-i3537354999.htmlbut I dont know where to plug this for example
http://allegro.pl/kontroler-pci-ide-sata-raid-bios-jak-vt642-i3511131652.htmlAlso to be strict and no offense guys
I would listen to a guy who had the same issue, had same motherboard, his disk died, bought new one and after 2 weeks this one started to fall apart in the same way.I could give a try to that usb adapter as its the cheapest solution, but I dont know it can help.
I had that same issue some day.
According to my experience
* 500GB HDDs usually to have issues (try to stay away from them) but if you follow my directions it could be fixed (probably!) as it could be damaged from manufacturer.. or got damaged..
* I have same device as this http://allegro.pl/adapter-przejsciowka-usb-do-dysku-sata-ide-pata-i3537354999.html
* http://allegro.pl/kontroler-pci-ide-sata-raid-bios-jak-vt642-i3511131652.html this one goes at PCI slot at Mainboard
* Use your XP to make an MS-DOS CD or use your XP CD to log into MS-DOS
oh GMZ you hurt my fellings wery
Fala, post link to what do you specified exactly? because I am not sure if I found right component over googling.
