"Distant Screams" (Team Arena) or "Silent Night" (Quake Live) are (in deed the 2nd one is just a result of "Christmas" conversion of the 1st one) so-called winter maps. They have enough space for, I think, even up to 50 players.

Silent Night from Quake Live would be the best option I think, but i'm not sure about stable fps there, so this map will be useless for Quake 3.

Why do you think that fps will be unstable there? Because of its size? Or because of numerous players who would play there? But size of a map is a key criteria!

well, any map from ql lags big time. even maps like asylum.
I haven't seen any lags in Quake Live maps. Moreover, most of them don't have some bugs that one can meet in original Quake III Arena maps, and also they are more light for the game engine.
we have a stable converted version of that map working for e+?
Every map made for "baseq3' mode can be played in ExcessivePlus mode. And... I have a variant of "Silent Night" which seems to be stable enough. And most of you, who have Team Arena, also have "Distant Screams".

Look at for example asylum map. I think it's about textures, not size of map or players.
