Do E+ need a ranking rule about laggers?
since rank comments is locked i have to post it here.
If anybody claims dark and rose do all the work, never forgett that any work done by them has to be checked by the community and any wrong decision causes long discussion "work" for the community.
this is actually an amusing fact, because dark and rose could start the discussion to see where the community takes it. Only difference of the "logic" work is that stuff is splitted onto many peoples, while math actually tells us that by mixing all oppinions, we just will get a half perfect rule - thats why the most expirienced and best thinkers in the community effectivly always will work more then the random ones.
about the rule itself, i would greatly welcome it if it can't be abused, we had/have such a rule already and it gives great power to the rank mods used right.
Artificial Lag / Latency hacking
In the peer-to-peer gaming model, lagging is what happens when the
stream of data between one or more players gets slowed or interrupted,
causing movement to stutter and make opponents behave erratically. By
using a lag switch, a player is able to disrupt upload from the console
to the server, while their own console queues up the actions performed.
The goal is to gain advantage over another player without reciprocation;
opponents slow down or stop moving, allowing the lag switch user to
easily out-maneuver them. From the opponents' perspective, the player
using the device may appear to be teleporting, invisible or invincible,
while the opponents suffer delayed animations and fast-forwarded game
play, delivered in bursts.[3] Some gaming communities refer to this method as "tapping".
The term 'lag switch' encompasses many methods of disrupting the
network communication between a console and its server. One method is by
attaching a physical device, called a hardware lag switch, to a
standard Ethernet cable. By flipping the switch on and off, the physical
connection between the console and the server is disrupted.[4]
Other methods, called a software or wireless lag switch, involve using a
computer program. In this method, the cheater runs an application on a
computer connected to the same network as the console. The application
hogs the network bandwidth, disrupting the communication between the
console and its server. An example of such an application is Laggsta.[5]
i have a name for this shit.... DISCRIMINATION!!!!
A stupid opinion stays a stupid opinion, and if 20.000.000 have the same stupid opinion, it doesn't change the fact, that it is stupid.
voted nr 3.this is a stupid rule , what is next : u cannot play a cw if u dont pay 100 euro per year?
Voted for option 3. Now all the conflict liking clans will abuse this to eliminate good players. Since I have wifi and I know that I can't move for few seconds sometimes I can be easily forced to spec because of that? Especially when the q3 engine is ages long and the netcode can't be optimized that much.
Bullshit.
Switching provider doesn't give u the guarantee you get a better connection, if u switch from a dsl provider to a dsl provider. e.g. in Germany. Most of the DSL cables are owned by German Telekom, and just rented by the other providers, so when u switch the provider, it
means you will use the same network. And even if the dsl cables are not owned by the big German Telekom, it doesn't mean your connection will get better, since it doesn't mean you connection will go a other route to the game-server.
Furthermore, the connection can change in one war very often, in this second 3 guys have PL in the next second other 3 have PL, in the next second all are smooth. And as i know the most players here, they will cry at the first warp "laaaaager, spec-force". Oh, and please try to contact your provider, while ur route is going to 5 countries, that the 7th hop makes you lag. The provider is for sure able to do something against it in all cases. No matter what you all will say, you will never find a fair solution, not in the one way, and not in the other way. Someone will be always discriminated.
Big +1
I do not live in a city or even a village and I have only one option as provider : France telecom. When I have bad connection and call them they answer "well, ok it's a problem but it's better than no internet at all, isn't it? " ...
so such lag isn't volontary : F3
wasn't aware of this bug, sry. all i did was this correction: changed 'ranked' to 'ranking' (no changes in poll options)
